The War Beyond the Gods
For as long as recorded history in Ethnoria exists, an eternal conflict has raged beyond the heavens and the void, a war between the Celestials and the Masters of the Void. These two forces, greater than the gods themselves, stand in opposition, each seeking to impose their will upon creation. The war is not one of mere territory or conquest, but of ideology, existence, and the fundamental balance of all things.
The Opposing Forces: Purpose and Ideology
The Celestials seek to maintain balance, structure, and the continued cycle of life, death, and rebirth. They believe in order, destiny, and the prosperity of existence. Their actions are not driven by selfishness but by the belief that a structured cosmos is essential for the survival of all things.
The Masters of the Void exist in direct opposition. They do not seek mere destruction but rather unmaking, an unraveling of creation itself to restore the void’s vast, limitless nature. To them, existence is a flaw, a disturbance in what should be the great nothingness. They embody chaos, corruption, and the primal hunger to consume all forms of structured reality.
The War’s Duration and Scale
This war has been waged since the dawn of time itself. It predates mortal civilizations, divine pantheons, and even the formation of the celestial and void realms as they are currently understood. The struggle has ebbed and flowed, with neither side able to achieve a definitive victory. Their battles are not always fought on physical battlefields; some are waged through manipulation, mortal proxies, or even the shaping of fate itself.
Each side consists of nine supreme beings, forming a total of eighteen entities of incomprehensible power. While gods, heroes, and rulers rise and fall, the Celestials and Void Masters remain, locked in an unending struggle beyond mortal comprehension.
The Celestials

The War’s Influence on Ethnoria
While the direct battles between these eighteen beings occur beyond mortal sight, their war leaves its scars across Ethnoria. Every conflict, every empire’s rise and fall, and every moment of triumph or despair is, in some way, a ripple from their eternal struggle.
The Celestials bless chosen individuals, guiding them toward destinies that uphold balance and order. Meanwhile, the Masters of the Void whisper into the hearts of mortals, tempting them with power, corruption, and destruction. Wars, plagues, heroes, and calamities often stem from this unseen battle between virtue and vice.
The Balance That Must Never Break
Neither side has ever achieved total victory, for the cosmos itself would collapse if one faction ever succeeded in completely wiping out the other. The Celestials and Void Masters are bound by existence itself, one cannot be without the other. Should the Celestials prevail, creation would stagnate in perfect, unchanging order. Should the Void Masters triumph, all would be undone, returning to the endless dark.
Thus, the war rages on, a conflict beyond time, where the fate of Ethnoria – and all existence – remains forever caught between the forces of creation and annihilation.
